Did Christ "do away" with Passover?

 A Scriptural overview of I Corinthians 5: 7, 8

I Corinthians 5:7,8 "Purge out therefore the old leaven, that ye may be a new lump, as ye are unleavened. For even Christ our passover is sacrificed for us."

"Therefore let us keep the feast, not with old leaven, neither with the leaven of malice and wickedness; but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth."

Some teach that the above Scripture verses must be taken to mean that since Christ is the Lamb of God who was sacrificed on the cross, that we should no longer celebrate Passover as commanded in Exodus 12:14  "And this day shall be unto you for a memorial; and ye shall keep it a feast to Yahweh throughout your generations; ye shall keep it a feast by an ordinance ('statute' in Heb.)   for ever".

We know that it's convenient and effortless  to rely upon "one verse Christianity" of denominationalism in trying to "prove" some viewpoint about any particular Bible subject.  The "jewdao-Christians" have done this for decades and I'm sure we have all been quite annoyed by this tactic of theirs while we are attempting to reach our racial kin with the truth.  For example they tell us that the Bible says "JESUS OF NAZARETH THE KING OF THE JEWS." (Jn.19:19)  Well --- yeah --- it does say that.  But we also know that upon a doing a Bible study, referencing precisely what the word "Jews" actually means, one's understanding is opened to the reality of the situation.

Obviously, we don't need to explain the word "Jews" to the audience here.  But the same condition applies for blurting out a catch-all phrase like "Christ is our Passover" and some how derive from that, that the commanded Feast Days, especially Passover, are all done away with and that's the end of the story.  There is a lot more to it than that.

In I Corinthians 5:7  what exactly is being "purged out"?  how? In what context does Paul mean "old leaven"?  What is a "new lump"?  To whom is this referring, and what is the subject matter of the many verses before and after that verse?  If we just slow down a bit and have an opened mind in not rushing to a conclusion in the heat of the emotional threat that we may have to change a long held opinion, then we will see that the Bible does explain itself and the ball of twisted yarn spun by the churches will unravel itself about Passover.

I Corinthians 5:7. "Purge out therefore the old leaven, that ye may be a new lump, as ye are unleavened. For even Christ our passover is sacrificed for us."   Here's what a Baptist minister some 35 years ago told me about that verse: "We don't do Passover anymore because Passover is "old leaven and Old Testament" and we now celebrate the true Passover by faith in Christ".  This is basically what we are told by nearly all church clergy when we are advised to NOT observe Passover because we must "leave that old leaven alone".

The question we want to nail down is ---  "Does the 'old leaven' in this verse refer to the Passover Feast"? Answer: No, it does not.

Paul is specifically referring here to two other things, neither of which are concerned with doing away with the Passover Feast.  First, the 'old leaven' was in reference to a person or persons of low character in the assembly who needed correction by being put away (purged out); and secondly the 'old leaven' is thus compared to non-Christian behavior that can grow like leaven within the believer as well, if we aren't on guard.  (Let me say again that we are commanded to celebrate Passover as a MEMORIAL DAY Ex.12:14, never a sacrifice day. The sacrifices were laws temporarily added to many days until Messiah would come.(Gal 2:19; Heb 10:1-10) The animal sacrifices are over.  To say that because a Christian has meat for a meal, that the meat/blood must have been sacrificed, is absurd.  I have no idea why some cannot grasp that Biblically explained concept. I mean, when is the last time anyone sacrificed a chicken when they had spicy chicken wings?  So, yes, it IS POSSIBLE to eat lamb without sacrificing it, and that is what we are to do presently.)

Now let's back up to verse one of I Corinthians 5 and quote the entire chapter for the readers here to see that the "old leaven" is 'wicked people' and/or "immoral behavior" that needs to be removed from the assembly.  We will not deliberate on the "Satan" in verse 5 for this article.

I Cor.5

1  It is reported commonly that there is fornication among you, and such fornication as is not so much as named among the Gentiles (nations), that one should have his father's wife.

2  And ye are puffed up, and have not rather mourned, that he that hath done this deed might be taken away from among you.

3  For I verily, as absent in body, but present in spirit, have judged already, as though I were present, concerning him that hath so done this deed,

4  In the name of our Master Jesus Christ, when ye are gathered together, and my spirit, with the power of our Master Jesus Christ,

5  To deliver such an one unto Satan for the destruction of the flesh, that the spirit may be saved in the day of the Master Jesus.

6  Your glorying is not good. Know ye not that a little leaven leaveneth the whole lump?

7  Purge out therefore the old leaven, that ye may be a new lump, as ye are unleavened. For even Christ our passover is sacrificed for us:

8  Therefore let us keep the feast, not with old leaven, neither with the leaven of malice and wickedness; but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth.

9  I wrote unto you in an epistle not to company with fornicators:

10  Yet not altogether with the fornicators of this world, or with the covetous, or extortioners, or with idolaters; for then must ye needs go out of the world.

11  But now I have written unto you not to keep company, if any man that is called a brother be a fornicator, or covetous, or an idolater, or a railer, or a drunkard, or an extortioner; with such an one no not to eat.

12  For what have I to do to judge them also that are without? do not ye judge them that are within?

13  But them that are without God judgeth. Therefore put away from among yourselves that wicked person.

Wow!  That pretty much explains it, but we'll continue on just to highlight some things about those verses, and maybe see how some other verses add to this advice of Paul's.  One glaring thing to observe is that we are NEVER told anywhere in this chapter  to "cease celebrating Passover".  Those who insist that Paul means this, would have to at least admit that such would be only inferred, even if it appears to them to be heavily inferred.  But we do not read, "Stop holding Passover as a memorial".  It's just not there. I would hope for a little honesty from all parties debating this matter, concerning at least this point of consideration.

On the other hand if we are going to allow the "inferred rule" to guide our conclusion about this chapter, then it would be more in line with the total context to infer that this assembly WAS gathered for Passover , and that Paul ok'd it.

"In the name of our Master Jesus Christ, when ye are gathered together --- " (v.4)

"Therefore let us keep the feast ---  explanation, explanation, etc" (v 8)

They certainly were gathered for something.  Why does Paul then go into a discourse about Passover?   So nobody wins any points if we want to play just by the "inferred rule".

As far as the words which we DO literally read,  verse 8  instructs us, "Therefore let us KEEP the feast".   The question is --- how?   Is it by doing away with the commandment given to all generations of Israel to remember that we were the ones Yahweh delivered from Egypt?  And to now celebrate it only by faith? Nope - nothing mentioned on that.  It continues,  "Therefore let us keep the feast, not with old leaven, neither with the leaven of malice and wickedness; but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth."

Paul is explaining that we do "keep the feast", but make sure to purge out the old leaven which (in this case -"who") can infect and destroy a body of believers. How is the purge done?  Verse  11 " But now I have written unto you not to keep company, if any man that is called a brother be a fornicator, or covetous, or an idolater, or a railer, or a drunkard, or an extortioner; with such an one no not to eat.

13  But them that are without God judgeth. Therefore put away from among yourselves that wicked person."

That's fairly clear I would say.

A person within the body who continues in unrepentant habitual sin, especially those sins  mentioned , can infect the members with the old leaven of  "malice and wickedness" (v.8) See also Mat.16;6,12 on the leaven of malice.   Christ died so that we do not have malice toward one another and that we stop our own wickedness of our "old man", namely, our pre-conversion self.    "Purge out therefore the old leaven, that ye may be a new lump, as ye are unleavened. For even Christ our passover is sacrificed for us:" (v.7)  Being taken out of the world and living by "newness" as the body of Christ, we must not hold malice against our brothers, nor continue living in any known sin of wickedness, nor allow the practice of it among us.  That we "do away" with a heritage commandment given by Yahweh concerning a Feast Day is not in any way the context of Paul's discourse.   We read the same thing in these exhortings:

Romans 6:6  "Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin."

2 Corinthians 5:17  "Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new."

Ephesians 4:22  "That ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts;"

Colossians 3:9  "Lie not one to another, seeing that ye have put off the old man with his deeds;"

In other words, Paul is saying that we are to put away our old nature of sinful leaven, and follow Christ in our new nature, and in doing so we please God even more by celebrating Passover in this manner, and not celebrating it with continuing in our sinful nature or in the company of malevolent people making a mockery of Yahweh's command, and thus proving ourselves to be hypocrites.

No dear brothers, I Corinthians 5 says nothing of purging our Israel heritage memorial of Passover from out of our lives.  It only simply encourages us in what manner of "spirit" we are to continue it's observance.  Simply put, the Passover is about Christ and now we are encouraged to observe the meaning of Passover in yet a more perfect way, in maturity of the Faith.

To reason that "Christ is our Passover" so therefore we should no longer hold to the physical memorial Feast, is equivalent to saying now "God is love" (I Jn.4:16), so therefore presently God is no longer manifest in His physical Only Begotten Son, He's just --- love.    Each, and both, are equally true.  Christ is our Passover, we honor Him in the Passover Feast because of it.  God is love, and we still honor His physical manifestation by which He is revealed to us. The second does not negate the nature of the first, it only enhances it.

The Passover is still valid, less the temporary animal sacrifice of applying lamb's blood.  The Exodus 12 particular preparation of the lamb and the use of the blood over the door lintels was for a token sacrifice concerning Yahweh's passing through the land to kill the first born of Egypt, and upon seeing the blood, He would  "Passover" the house.  That was a one time event, and as with all animal blood sacrifices/applications, was fulfilled in Christ.   Yahweh as the "angel of death" does not make a yearly appearance for that purpose, the blood sacrifice now stops, but the memorial day of what happened continues by a generational celebration.  Yahweh has commanded us to memorialize THE DAY (Ex. 12:14) not the animal blood.  The Passover Meal itself is a yearly assembly for Israel commanded by Yahweh as a remembrance.   A major reason the denominational churches don't celebrate it is because they don't know who the Israelites are. They are just reeling in their blindness.  There are seven "holy day" Bible memorials that Saxon Israel is to be celebrating throughout the year.  Passover is the first of these seven in chronological order. The denominational churches have stripped these memorials from Saxon heritage and have replaced them with all manner of pagan holidays.  Come out from among them.

Have a Happy Passover Memorial Meal, Israelites!  Praise our King and Kinsman Redeemer Yahshua (Jesus) the Christ.  (PS   - don't Jew kosher torture the lambs by a knife slit of the neck artery.  We Saxons are Israelites, and also sons of Noah. As guardians of the earth have respect for God's creation .   Purchase a nice leg of lamb from a non-jew store, or humanely snuff out the animal's life quickly if roasting a whole one.  Check out this link on why to avoid Edomite animal cruelty at Passover - see last part of the link article  http://www.solarsabbath.org/animals.htm#Beast7
